The Afghan Tradition or the Chronicle of a Death Foretold

One of the best documentaries on Afghanistan, detailing how and why the Soviets fails and explaining why most certainly we are going to fail too.

I will never forget my Afghan colleague and fraternal brother at Oxford, when we first met and asked him about the situation in Afghanistan:

“Dimitris, Afghan people do not resent invasions. We permit them, if not actively encourage them. I do not remember a time when we fought an invasion. At times the invaders feel that they are welcome.

But, we know that the place is ours, and that the occupants are temporary. So we just wait patiently as the morale of the invaders is eroded by our guerrilla tactics.”

Please do watch the excellent documentary Bitter Lake by Adam Curtis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84P4dzow1Bw

Instead of listening to the various explanations about the failures from the same media outlets that until yesterday were telling you that the situation is under control and that the Democratically elected Afghan government will be able to deal with the Taliban, please listen to those who were informing us that the war is lost, years ago.
