Thank you for your comment. I went through this guilt trip too, while deciding to recommend it here.

But I valued the perspective more than the factual accuracy. e.g. to me the line "sport is the theatre of stupid people" was pure genius. Or the bit about "Adverts". The whole notion of consumerism in a few of sentences. There were many other moments in Philomena's perspectives that broaden ours, a feat that even objective facts may fail to achieve to silly "us". Having said that, please read the commentary on Gutenberg (in the link below the article) that explains why I value tales, even for entertainment. Brave of you to recommend it to your husband as I am sure that the chances are that he will fall in love with her (as I did ) :) .
